Too Loved To Ever Be Forgotten

A light from our family is gone, a voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in the home, which never can be filled.
We have to mourn the loss of one we would’ve loved to keep.
But God who surely loved her best has finally made her sleep.
After a lifetime of her love and laughter to fill our ears,
God leaves these wondrous memories, to help us through our tears.
Forever in our hearts…

Eustacia (Tacey) Genevieve Macaulay, nee Baker, was born on the 8th of April, 1953. She was the fifth of Eustace John Hyacinthe and Henrietta Lydia Baker’s six children. Tacey was predeceased by both parents, as well as her brothers Arthur and Emmanuel, and sister Veronique. She is survived by her sister Juliet and brother Jesse.

Tacey’s education started at the Cathedral Infant School in Freetown. At age 9, she left Sierra Leone to join her aunt Mrs. Lucinda Lake-Bakarr in the United Kingdom. In the UK, she attended the Hogarth Primary School and Staveley Secondary School for Girls, both in Chiswick, West London.

For a few years, Tacey enjoyed the experience of being a young girl working in Central London. She then decided to further her studies at Langham Secretarial College, where she first earned a certificate in secretarial studies in 1974, followed by a higher diploma in the same field in 1976.

Tacey returned home to Sierra Leone in 1977 and started her secretarial career at the law firm of Conteh, Terry & Co. In 1978, she joined Barclays (now Rokel), Bank where she worked for the next 35 years. She rose up the ranks to retire in 2013 as Secretary to the Managing Director.

Whilst employed at Conteh, Terry & Co. she met and fell in love with 'her world' and life partner ‘B’; Berthan Macaulay, Jnr. They were married in 1993.

Tacey was an ardent member of the Centenary Tabernacle Church, where she worshipped regularly and was well known in the mid-week communion group. As a member of 'The Great Women of Tabernacle', Tacey supported various endeavours undertaken by the group.

Tacey’s big passion, (apart from ‘B’ of course!), was her home. She had a flair for interior design and was meticulous about the décor of her home; what was put where and what looked good in which spot. She loved gardening and nurtured a blooming and much-admired garden over the years. She was an avid traveller who experienced many fun adventures with her beloved Berthan.

Family and friends were a big part of Tacey’s life, and she loved and was loved by so many. Our hearts are broken by her untimely death on January 26th, 2021.

Even though we all love and miss you, we know you are sleeping with the angels and are truly grateful.

Rest in perfect peace, Tacey. You will be sorely missed.
